CASTLE COURSE, ST ANDREWS

FIFE & ANGUS

Having opened for play in summer 2008, the Castle Course is the seventh and newest addition to the St Andrews Links Trust portfolio. With its cliff-top location, most people might not consider it to be a classic links like the others down in the town, but it is without doubt a very enjoyable alternative to them.

The greens on this modern more than traditional layout are relatively large and therefore easier to find, but their slopes mean that two-putting becomes very difficult at times. It is important to leave yourself on the correct side of the hole on this course, as failing to do so can sometimes mean you are left with an impossible task.

The two finishing holes are excellent and, thanks to their stunning panoramas, will live long in the memory. The signature 17th is a magnificent par 3 played back in the direction of the town across a rugged ravine. The 18th curves around the hill to a huge double-green set against the beautiful backdrop of the sea.

Whether the Castle Course fits neatly into the links category or not doesn’t matter – the spectacular views on offer alone mean it is well worth fitting in to your visit to the Home of Golf.

Play the Castle Course as part of our Mixed Pairs Cup St Andrews.
