Royal Dornoch is simply bucket list golf at its finest. The reputation, setting and history of this superb links mean that both professionals and amateurs travel here from all four corners of the world. Ben Crenshaw, Greg Norman and Tom Watson are among its biggest fans, with the latter prompted to describe it as ‘the most fun I ever had playing golf’.
A round at Royal Dornoch will test all aspects of your game and live long in the memory. From start to finish, it meets every expectation and ticks every box.
With so many outstanding holes it is almost an impossible task to pick out some highlights, but those on the stretch around the turn and into the back 9 – from the 9th to the 15th – are closest to the beach and simply magnificent. The 9th is a cracking par 5 adjacent to the coastline, the 10th is a fine par 3 played to a double level green, and the 14th is a wonderful par 4 ranked as Stroke Index 1.
Missing a green on any hole will mean your short game is tested to the full. When the course plays firm and fast you will need all of your imagination and creativity to get up and down.
