As you would expect from a course ranked No. 1 in the Middle East by Top 100 Courses, Yas Links offers wonder and excitement at every stage. Whether it is the strong bunkering, the rolling fairways that twist and turn, or the undulating ‘upturned saucer style’ green complexes, there is always something to hold your attention.
Designed by the acclaimed Kyle Phillips, who was also responsible for the modern day Scottish classics of Kingsbarns and Dundonald Links, the course opened in 2010 and it has been earning rave reviews ever since. As with the majority of Yas Island, everything is very much man made but it certainly doesn’t feel that way.
Bounding the course on one side is the F1 racing circuit and Ferrari World theme park. On the other is the stunning coastline, and this provides for some thrilling challenges towards the end of each nine. The 8th is a fine par 3 played over water, then golfers having to decide how much of the corner to cut off on the 9th.
That being said, it is the run of holes from the 16th to the 18th that get the headlines, and rightly so. All played alongside the water, this exhilarating trio combine to make perhaps the toughest closing stretch in the whole of the United Arab Emirates.
