The small village of Machrihanish, on the west coast of the stunning Kintyre Peninsula, is home to two of Scotland’s finest links. Whilst the drive there might be long and winding – about which Paul McCartney was inspired to write the famous song – it is definitely worth the effort.

Our Machrihanish week will feature three separate competitions – it begins with a 36 hole Betterball Stableford at Machrihanish & Machrihanish Dunes and finishes with a 36 hole Individual event at the same two courses. Sandwiched in between is an optional day at nearby Dunaverty, and players may choose which of the three they take part in, or enter them all.

According to Jack Nicklaus, the Old Tom Morris layout at Machrihanish has ‘the best opening hole of golf in the world’. Its neighbour Machrihanish Dunes is a stunning new links that has been carefully crafted into the natural landscape. Both courses offer incredible views, both feature in the Top 100 lists, and both guarantee a magnificent golfing experience.

THE EVENT

MONDAY 25 & TUESDAY 26 AUGUST
36 HOLE PAIRS BETTERBALL

Round 1 on Monday for Pairs is at the historic Machrihanish, and our competitors will enjoy a course that offers much more than just a spectacular opening tee shot. Tuesday’s 2nd Round is up the road at Machrihanish Dunes – a modern layout but very much golf as it used to be.

WEDNESDAY 27 AUGUST
OPTIONAL 18 HOLES AT DUNAVERTY

Situated on the very southernmost tip of the Kintyre Peninsula, Dunaverty isn’t exactly a golf course that you just stumble across. If you happen to be in the area though, this short yet incredibly fun and picturesque layout is certainly one of golf’s must plays.

THURSDAY 28 & FRIDAY 29 AUGUST
36 HOLE INDIVIDUAL STABLEFORD

We head back to Machrihanish and meander among the sand dunes for the 1st Round of the Individual event on Thursday. It is then on to the David McLay Kidd designed Machrihanish Dunes for Friday’s Round 2 – one of the most natural links you will find anywhere in Britain.

The Rules

> Competitors may play as many of the three competitions (Pairs, Individual and Dunaverty) during the week as they wish.
> The Machrihanish events are 36 hole Stableford competitions, and the pair/player with the highest total score after two rounds will be declared the winner.
> Each round will be qualifying for handicap purposes.
> As well as prizes for overall net and gross scores, there will also be daily prizes and our unique ‘Par 3 Challenge’.
> Prizes will be presented after the final round – any prize winners not in attendance must contact the organisers to claim their prize, and will be liable for any costs incurred in sending their prize to them.
> The event organisers reserve the right to amend the format of the competition should the number of entrants or weather conditions dictate.
> All entrants must be amateurs and members of recognised golf clubs, and hold an active or competitive handicap.
> Overseas entrants must provide proof of their exact handicap.
> CDH numbers or handicap certificates must be provided before the start of the event.
> Entrants must be over the age of 18 on the date of the first round.
> Maximum handicap to play is 24 – 85% allowance is given for the Pairs and 95% allowance for the Individual.
> A draw will be produced for each days play.
> Should any entrant wish to withdraw from the event, a full refund (less any charges incurred) will be guaranteed up until 2 months before the start date of the event. Withdrawals after this date will receive 50% of their entry fee, unless a replacement can be found.
